JAC Jharkhand board Class 10 results shows all-time-low pass percentage of 57 of over 4 lakh examinees making the grade.
The Jharkhand board’s class 10 results declared on Tuesday witnessed an all-time-low pass percentage since 2005, with only 57% of over 4 lakh examinees making the grade.
Out of the 4,67,193 students who registered for the exams, 4,63,311 appeared for the papers, and only 2,68,308 passed.
Fewer boys than girls had taken the exams, but they outperformed the girls by achieving a pass percentage of 60.88. Girls lagged behind with a pass percentage of 55. According to the Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) which conducts the exams a total of 2,28,859 boys and 2,34,453 girls had appeared for the class 10 exams.
JAC chairperson Arvind Singh said that the examination and evaluation were conducted under strict security across the state. All the evaluators checking answer sheets at the 911 centres were under CCTV surveillance in a bid to prevent any malpractices in the evaluation, he said
This is not the end of life, it is just the beginning. I congratulate the students who have done well and request the students who did not fare well not to lose hope,” said Singh.
He added that JAC was working on digitization of the entire process from registration, to issuance of documents, and results for fair and timely examination and evaluation.
Students from East Singhbhum district performed the best among the 24 districts in the state by securing a pass percentage of 67.95. Capital Ranchi bagged the second position with a pass percentage of 65.91.
According to figures released by the JAC, students from the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities performed poorly in the tribal state.
The pass percentage for SC students was 49.52 and that for ST students was 51.80. The tribal community forms 26.2% of the 33 million total population in Jharkhand, and various schemes are run by the centre as well as the state for uplifting the tribes here.
State education minister Neera Yadav who declared the results of class 10 and class 12 (science and commerce) online from the JAC premises in Ranchi on Tuesday, had a word of encouragement for those who did not fare well.
“Do not get disheartened if you failed to secure good marks this time. Life will give you opportunities in future, and you should focus on them,” Yadav said.
A majority of students who appeared for the exams study in government schools and come from humble backgrounds. Very few of them can afford extra tuitions, said sources in the education department.
